Thematic Research Project – PDR-THEMA

The PDR-THEMA is an instrument for financing 3-year single- or multi-university research projects, led by a main promoter.
This instrument provides for the participation of one or more co-promoters, including co-promoters outside the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
As part of a PDR-THEMA, eligible costs are of 3 types: personnel, operation and equipment.
Transfers between categories during projects are authorized upon notification to the F.R.S.-FNRS.
The amount that can be requested varies depending on the theme and is included in the mini-guide for each PDR-THEMA call.

PDR-THEMA - Cardiovascular diseases

This call aims to fund 3-year research projects focusing on cardiovascular diseases in the broad sense.  The F.R.S.-FNRS does not impose any additional thematic constraints and the jury must, if necessary, decide on the eligibility of a project whose subject seems to move away from this framework. All scientific approaches are eligible: molecular biology, public health, modeling, clinical studies, preclinical studies, medical engineering, etc.

PDR-THEMA - PFAS

This call is dedicated to per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances, better known under the acronym “PFAS”, also referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment.

The objective of the PFAS thematic call is to support research projects aiming at a better understanding of these substances, their effects on the environment and health, and the societal issues they raise. The PDR‑THEMA PFAS call is open to all fields, organized into the following three major domains: Exact and Natural Sciences (SEN), Life and Health Sciences (SVS) and Human and Social Sciences (SHS).

Depending on the domain, projects must contribute to a better understanding of: the physico‑chemical properties of PFAS, their distribution and environmental impact, alternative solutions, and prevention pathway ; the impact of PFAS on human and animal health : societal and legal issues surrounding the PFAS problematic.

The FNRS PDR-THEMA projects are funded by private donations and bequests.
