PDR-THEMA PFAS 2026 – Thematic Research Project : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
The Fund for Scientific Research – FNRS (Fonds de la recherche Scientifique – FNRS – F.R.S.-FNRS) organises various calls named Thematic Research Project (Projet de recherche thématique – PDR‑THEMA) aimed at supporting projects on a specific theme.
In this context, the F.R.S.-FNRS launches a PDR‑THEMA call dedicated to per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances, better known under the acronym “PFAS” (per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment.

Financing description
Objective
The objective of the PFAS thematic call is to support research projects aiming at a better understanding of these substances, their effects on the environment and health, and the societal issues they raise.
Scope
The PDR‑THEMA PFAS call is open to all fields, organized into the following three major domains: Exact and Natural Sciences (Sciences Exactes et Naturelles – SEN), Life and Health Sciences (Sciences de la Vie et de la Santé – SVS) and Human and Social Sciences (Sciences Humaines et Sociales – SHS).
Depending on the domain, projects must contribute to a better understanding of:
- the physico‑chemical properties of PFAS, their distribution and environmental impact, alternative solutions, and prevention pathways.
- the impact of PFAS on human and animal health.
- societal and legal issues surrounding the PFAS problematic.
