Permanent position (R3) and promotion (R4)

The permanent researcher mandate is an instrument which allows a researcher to devote himself to research within a university of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB). This is an indefinite term mandate, awarded on the basis of scientific excellence, and comprising three levels:

  • the mandate of Qualified researcher (CQ);

  • the mandate of Research Master (MR), which corresponds to promotion of the CQ mandate based on merit;

  • the mandate of Research Director (DR), which corresponds to a promotion of the MR mandate based on merit.

These mandates are awarded as part of the call “Grants & Fellowship”.

Qualified researcher - CQ

The CQ mandate allows an experienced researcher to pursue their research independently.

Research Master - MR

The holder of the CQ mandate may request promotion to the title of MR from the eighth academic year following his appointment, provided that he carries out fundamental research activity during these years.

The holder of the mandate of MR who actually exercises his mandate, can from the start of the 4th year of this mandate, request promotion to the title of DR.

Clinical researcher - CCL

The SPD part-time mandate is reserved for clinical specialists approved postdoctoral fellows who wish to devote themselves to fundamental research while ensuring the continuity of a part-time hospital activity. It consists of a probationary period of 6 years, divided into three mandates of a duration of 2 years, followed by mandates of a duration of 4 years, renewable without limit. from the first renewal for a period of 4 years, the title of the mandate becomes clinical researcher (CCL).
